Happy Retirement Joe

This is Joe closing over his last mould at Draycast. He’s been with us for over 40 years (the longest serving member of the team). He’s earned a long and happy retirement with Hazel. We value all he’s done for the company and the contribution he’s made to our growth over the years. The legacy he’s left us with is a well trained and drilled younger generation who have benefited from his years of experience to take Draycast forward. Enjoy your retirement Joe with the best wishes of all the Draycast team.

Draycast DNV-GL Works Approval

We are proud to announce that Draycast has achieved DNV-GL works approval for the manufacture of bronze castings. The hard work put in by the team has paid off and we are happy to add the other works approvals from Lloyds and Bureau Veritas. To achieve these and maintain them illustrates that our business systems and quality of product is worthy of these awards.

Lloyds Approved Bronze & Aluminium Foundry Logo

Lloyds Register Foundry Works Approval – What does it mean?

What does this actually mean? It means that a representative from Lloyds Register who is intimately understands foundries and how they work has inspected and audited all sides of a foundry business. This person is happy that what the foundry is doing to produce castings is in line with procedures that they feel will produce castings to a dependable level. To be approved indicates that they are happy to put the Lloyds name against the product produced. Without inspecting every casting produced and procedure involved this isn’t a blanket approval but the high standards set mean that the general practice employed to make castings in the foundry is consistent and of a high level. Castings can be inspected on a castings by casting basis by a Lloyds inspector and this is known as 3.2 inspection and can be undertaken if necessary to give complete peace of mind or if a specific requirement is stipulate by a customer.

The approved status for a foundry is not only a vindication of the skills and competence of the foundry but a useful gauge when looked at by prospective customers. They can be assured that to achieve and maintain this status the company is a partner they can trust to deliver a good product to a dependable level. A vital indication from day one that the foundry has a high level of skill.

Draycast achieved this approval for the production of bronze castings in 2010 and has held it ever since following several reviews over this time. Its something we are proud to hold and continue to maintain and has proved useful in securing new work from our customers. We have since gone on to add Bureau Veritas approval which again illustrates our commitment to quality.

Copies of our certificates are available to view on our website at the Lloyds Register Foundry Approval page of the Draycast website http://www.draycast.co.uk.

Aluminium Bronze High Pressure Impeller Casting - AB2

Aluminium Bronze Castings – The Perfect Solution

Aluminum Bronze Castings AB2/C95800 – ASTM B148

Aluminium Bronze is an alloy that has numerous uses. It has become an increasing utilised material due to its corrosion resistance and high physical strength. It finds many different applications in numerous industries such as fluid handling (Valves, Pumps, Filtration etc), shipping (propellers etc) and other varied applications. It’s use in the oil and gas section has become extremely prevalent not least due to its non-sparking properties.

Aluminium bronze is also recognised for its corrosion resistance which makes it especially suitable for certain environments such as in the chemical industry. The aluminium component of the alloy reacts with oxygen in the environment to form a layer of aluminium oxide which resists attack and forms a skin which prevents the metal being attacked. This propensity makes aluminium bronze particularly difficult to cast as this reaction has to be be prevented as the hot metal is introduced to the mould.

Typical pouring temperatures for AB2/C95800 are between 1180 and 1240 depending on wall thickness and intricacy of the part. Draycast uses both green sand moulding and resin moulding systems to produce aluminium bronze castings in our foundry in Chesham UK.

Here at Draycast we have extensive experience of supplying many tonnes of aluminium bronze casting per month and this demand is increasing year on year as we have demonstrated our technical abilities to existing and potential customers. This backed up by our approvals from both Lloyds Register and Bureau Veritas for the manufacture of bronze casting.
